Emma Stone To Star In Cameron Crowe's Next Film

Emma Stone

By Ashleigh Schmitz

Big screen "it-girl" of the moment, Emma Stone has recently joined Cameron Crowe's new movie, an untitled love story, with Sony Pictures. Deadline reports that Crowe will direct the film, which has a "tone reminiscent of past Crowe films 'Almost Famous' and 'Jerry Maguire.'"

This film has the potential to be great, considering that Stone hasn't made any real missteps with her choices and Crowe's projects are usually smart and poignant. Add to that equation executive producer Scott Rudin, who has been behind many Oscar-winning and nominated movies in recent years ("Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close", "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and "Moneyball" from last year alone), and this film has huge momentum going into production.

While story details are limited, Jeff Sneider of Variety tweeted late yesterday, "After sitting on a shelf for years, Crowe's recent rewrite of DEEP TIKI has the project gaining momentum at Sony again..." not long before Deadline's exclusive, leading many to believe that Crowe's "Deep Tiki" script is moving forward with Stone and a yet to be named male lead rather than Reese Witherspoon and Ben Stiller, who were both previously attached to the project.

Crowe is scheduled to begin directing the film next spring, and if everything continues according to plan, The Playlist estimates that the film will hit theaters sometime in 2014.

Next up for Stone is "Gangster Squad," which recently moved its release date from September to January due to re-shoots.
