Comic-Con: 'Pacific Rim' Footage Levels Hall H

Even as "Elysium" won over scores of attendees yesterday in Hall H and people declared it the early winner of San Diego Comic-Con 2012, the general reply to all the praise was "Let's wait until 'Pacific Rim.'"

Arguably the most anticipated of all the panels, Warner Bros kicked off their review of upcoming titles with a look at Guillermo del Toro's giant monsters versus giant robots movie.

Calling the footage "well-received" would be the understatement of the convention. The reaction was nothing short of hysteria.

Before wowing crowds with images of robots fighting monsters, del Toro stopped by MTV News to talk "Pacific Rim" and the movies he loved that inspired it.

"With Warner, I had the relationship with having prepped 'The Hobbit.' With Thomas [Tull] and Jon [Jashni at Legendary], I found an absolute dream. It was like clash of the geeks. It was fantastic," del Toro said. "Discussing with them kaiju and robot battle sequences in an office full of toys and collectibles and posters and original art is like a game changer for me.

"It is the best experience I have ever had professionally, and I really loved creatively and in every way every second of it, so it was truly, truly a respite for the fan-man."
