'Star Trek 2' Teases Klingons At MTV Movie Awards

During the 2012 MTV Movie Awards, we got our glimpse of the first official look at "Star Trek 2." We just weren't quite sure what we were looking at.

Fortunately the folks over at HitFix found out for us. They were able to confirm, thanks to their sources at the studio, that we are indeed looking at a Klingon in the image shown in the video below.

The video was a sketch that Joel McHale, Jennifer Lawrence and J.J. Abrams starred in that aired during the Movie Awards. McHale acted as Hollywood's premiere acting coach, while Lawrence and Abrams were two of his poor, unsuspecting victims.

According to HitFix, the inclusion of the image in the skit was no accident. Abrams is the king of playing games with his audience, and this time he hid a clue in plain sight. From the little we know about "Star Trek 2," we believe that Klingons are going to be playing villainous characters in the film.

It's worth noting that we've already seen a version of Abrams' Klingons thanks to a deleted scene including the classic "Star Trek" race that was supposed to be included in the director's 2009 movie. If you look at that shot of Klingons and this photo side by side, they look very similar.

'Star Trek 2' is due out in theaters on May 17, 2013. It stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, John Cho and Alice Eve.
