'Hotel Transylvania 2' Checking Back In For 2015

Hotel

It won't be long before we can check in to "Hotel Transylvania" again.

After the animated monster movie did well in theaters following its September 28 release, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that Sony has decided to greenlight a sequel for the flick. "Hotel Transylvania 2" is going to hit theaters on September 25, 2015, almost two years to the day after "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2," the studio's other forthcoming animated sequel, is due out.

Though it's good news that the film is coming out, it doesn't seem likely that director Genndy Tartakovsky will return for it. He's currently set to helm Sony's "Popeye" movie, which is slated to hit theaters on September 26, 2014. It doesn't seem likely that he'll be able to juggle both, though we bet that "Hotel Transylvania 2" will do just fine without him at the helm.

"Hotel Transylvania" went on to make $140 million in the United States and $270 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing Sony Pictures Entertainment movie ever. It wasn't received especially well by critics, but it broke the September box office slump and that's all that counts.

The animated film brought together the voice talents of Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kevin James, Fran Drescher, Steve Buscemi, Molly Shannon, David Spade and even CeeLo Green. They portrayed a variety of different creatures who go bump in the night, including Dracula, Frankenstein and Quasimodo. Our bet is that some of these characters will return in the forthcoming sequel, while we'll see a new line-up of voice actors as well.
