'Cloud Atlas' Swept Away By 'Argo' At Box Office

Cloud Atlas

FROM MTV NEWS

Four new films, including the star-packed "Cloud Atlas," couldn't withstand the positive buzz around Ben Affleck and his newest film "Argo." After two weekends in second place, the international thriller clinched the top spot at the box office with a modest $12.4 million, adding to a now $60.8 million total.

"Cloud Atlas," the ambitious film from the Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer, disappointed with a $9.4 million take, only good enough for a third place finish, behind the persistent "Hotel Transylvania," which added $9.5 million to its impressive $130.4 million total.

The two other debuts, "Fun Size" and "Chasing Mavericks," fell completely flat. The Victoria Justice vehicle managed to pull in just over $4 million, and the Gerard Butler surfing movie managed just over $2 million.
