We'll be meeting Jack the giant killer three weeks earlier than we had previously expected, but he won't be a "killer" anymore.
Warner Bros. has changed the film's name from "Jack the Giant Killer" to "Jack the Giant Slayer," supposedly because this movie is going to be a little more family friendly than we had previously expected. The Hollywood Reporter has the news, saying that the film will be moved up to March 1, 2013 from its previous March 22 release slot.
The move is apparently so the flick can take the recently-vacated spot of "Elysium." That movie was moved back to August 9 earlier this week, which bumped "RoboCop" back to February 7, 2014. Do you guys love Hollywood's game of musical chairs as much as we do?
This likely won't have too much of an impact on "Jack the Giant Slayer" as the three week change doesn't really effect the time the movie is coming out. We're a bit more concerned about the "family friendly" aspect of this project, though. We were all for an edgier take on the classic fairytale, but we guess the trailer already set us up for a lighter take on the story.
Back when it was still called "Jack the Giant Killer," the movie was moved from its planned June 15, 2012 release date back to March 22. At the time, it was said that the nine-month change was to give the studio more time to iron out the film's special effects.
Directed by Bryan Singer, "Jack the Giant Slayer" stars Nicholas Hoult, Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane, Bill Nighy and Ewan McGregor. It is based on the English folktale "Jack and the Beanstalk."
