The remake of "Total Recall" may have forgotten who the reigning box office champion is when it decided to challenge "The Dark Knight Rises" in its third weekend. Christopher Nolan's trilogy finale easily handled the cerebral competition from Len Wiseman's revamping of the Schwarzenegger cult classic.
"Total Recall" only took in $26 million in its opening weekend, just $500,000 than the original bowed to back in 1990.
"The Dark Knight Rises," on the other hand, took in an additional $39.4 million, bring its domestic total to $354.6 million, and while that U.S. total falls behind "The Dark Knight," the third Batman film is outpacing its predecessor overseas. Worldwide the film has already earned $378.4 million.
Head over to MTV News to head the complete rundown of this weekend's box office totals.
