'Avengers' Star Clark Gregg Boards Jason Reitman's 'Labor Day'

Clark Gregg

The Hulk might have stolen the show in "The Avengers," but it was Clark Gregg's Agent Phil Coulson who captured our hearts. That's why it should come as no surprise that other filmmakers are quickly snapping up the actor for their own projects.

The Marvel star is headed over to celebrate "Labor Day" with Jason Reitman, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. There's no word yet on what character Gregg will be playing, but he is set to join an all-star cast.

So far "Labor Day" already stars Kate Winslet, Josh Brolin, Tom Lipinski, Maika Monroe, James Van Der Beek, Gattlin Griffith and Brighid Fleming. It is based on the novel by Joyce Maynard which is about an escaped convicted murderer who holes up with a lonely single mom and her young son over a Labor Day weekend. The story will be told from the perspective of the son, who will learn many life lessons along the way.

Winslet is set to play the other and Brolin will play the convict. Van Der Beek is signed up as a police officer involved in the story somehow. Not much else is known about the casting and plot of the flick, though if you've read the book you can probably piece it together for yourself.

Though he is now most recognizable for his roles in Marvel's movies, Gregg has had a long-running career in Hollywood. He directed the Chuck Palahniuk adaptation "Choke" and has starred in movies from "(500) Days of Summer" to "We Were Soldiers" to "The Usual Suspects." We're glad he's getting his time in the spotlight now.

"Labor Day" is set to start filming in New England sometime this year.
